Trump found a replacement for his military in Syria
President of the United States Donald Trump expects to replace the American military in Syria with Arabs. This is written by The Wall Street Journal with reference to sources in the administration of the White House.
According to the newspaper's interlocutor, Presidential Adviser on National Security John Bolton has already contacted the Egyptian intelligence leadership to discuss the possibilities of cooperation in the region. Cairo has not commented on the US proposal yet.
Washington also appealed to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates to provide funds for the restoration of northern Syria and the maintenance of stability there. It's about billions of dollars, the newspaper writes. The US also wants the Arab countries to send their military to the region, which, as previously stated, the Americans will soon leave.
This raised concern of some officials, since the withdrawal of the US military from Syria can strengthen the influence of Iran, Russia, and terrorist groups in the region and lead to the restoration of the organization "Islamic State" (ISIS), a source in the White House said.
Experts expressed doubts about the success of Washington's strategy. "Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates sent troops to Yemen, and Egypt is unlikely to want to send troops to the territories beyond the control of the Syrian government," said a senior researcher at the Middle East Institute in Washington. He noted that the Arab countries may not agree to send troops to where the US military will not remain.
In early April, Trump suggested that Saudi Arabia pay if it wants an American military presence in Syria.
Earlier, the American leader declared the United States willingness to withdraw from Syria immediately after the defeat of the ISIS. He noted that the US had to solve too many tasks in the region, some of which were initially unbearable. In addition, Washington had to examine the relationship between the numerous armed groups fighting with each other, some of them can be considered terrorist.
