Tesla ceded to competitor in sales of solar panels
Tesla missed the leading position in the field of production and installation of solar panels for residential premises. This is reported by Bloomberg.
In the fourth quarter of last year, Tesla installed batteries in residential buildings at 50 megawatts of power, while its competitor, Sunrun, supplied equipment with a total capacity of 85 megawatts.
Tesla lost its leading position for the first time after it acquired SolarCity, which had problems with payment of debts. Since then, its market share has been slowly but steadily declining.
The power of solar panels installed in 2017 in US homes declined compared to last year. This indicator fell for the first time after 16 years of continuous growth. Sunrun became one of the few large companies that managed to increase its results.
In October 2016, Elon Musk introduced the public solar panels, which are integrated into the roof of the house. Such installations are now being produced at an American plant in Buffalo.
The USA in 2016 ranked fourth in the world in terms of installed solar batteries. The leaders of the list were China, Japan and Germany. The first four leaders account for about 66 percent of all installed panels.
