Scientists have found a new way to improve memory
Scientists at York University (UK) have discovered how the current of sleep affects a person's ability to remember new information. The results of the study are published in the journal Current Biology.
The scientific world has long known that sleep plays an important role in the formation and preservation of new memories. Scientists decided to reveal how the development of memory is associated with the spindles of sleep - explosions of vibrational brain activity, visible with the help of an electroencephalogram (EEG).
British scientists believe that it is possible to improve a person's ability to remember if transcranial electrical stimulation is performed during sleep.
The experiment, conducted on volunteers, showed the correctness of the conclusions of the researchers. Subjects were told adjectives and related associations. Then they pronounced these adjectives at a time when they were napping. EEG revealed that the corresponding associations were formed in humans. Thus, sleep spindles are directly related to the ability to memorize.
According to scientists, their discovery can help people who have difficulties in learning.
In February, American scientists from the University of Brigham Young discovered that it significantly improves memory jogging. Physical activity reduces the negative effect of chronic stress on the hippocampus - the part of the brain responsible for memory.
