WADA tubes for doping tests were found to be defective

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) recommended that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) refuse to use containers of a new sample for doping tests at the 2018 Olympic Games in Pyeongchang. This is reported on the organization's website.

After the inspection it was established that the BEREG-KIT containers, developed in September 2017 by Berlinger, can be opened even without the use of special tools. It was planned that these test tubes will be used at the 2018 Olympics.

WADA recommends that an earlier container model of the same company, released in 2016 and used at the last Olympics, be used at the Games in Pyeongchang. According to the director general of the anti-doping agency Olivier Niggly, Berlinger has already agreed to resume production of the earlier model.

On January 29, WADA was concerned about the possibility of opening BEREG-KIT containers. Then representatives of the company Berlinger stated that it was impossible to open the tube without damage.
